How does playing golf on one of the spectacular Florida PGA courses sound? Gorgeous surroundings, manicured fairways and greens, perfect weather and stunning architecture all awaits in the Sunshine State. Two of Tiger Woods' three homes are in Florida, so the state must have something special when it comes to golf.
The Westin Innisbrook Resort - Copperhead is located outside of Tampa, Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. This resort changed ownership in November 2006 and is now renamed the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club. The sprawling resort boasts four Florida PGA courses, the jewel of which is the Copperhead Golf Course. Copperhead is where the PGA holds it annual PODS Championship. The other three Florida PGA courses are named The Islands, the Highlands North and the Highlands South. All four Florida PGA courses at Innisbrook are 18 hole championship level courses. Innisbrook is also a full service resort with accommodations, fine dining and meeting rooms for large and small groups.
The TPC at Heron Bay is among Florida PGA courses northwest of Fort Lauderdale at the Coral Springs Marriott Hotel. The TPC at Heron Bay is under new ownership and is no longer a TPC, however the resort is still one of the finest Florida PGA courses. Under this new ownership, it is now called the Heron Bay Golf Club. The golf course hosted the PGA National Honda Classic from 1997 – 2002, so it is a first class championship course. The men's par is set at 72, with course yardage from the men's tees registering at 6,781 yards. Green fees run from $50 - $99 per player and the cart is included. Florida PGA courses such as Heron Bay also include many amenities such as a tremendous aquatic center with three pools, a tennis center, a Lodge with a library, a fitness center and other luxurious amenities.
The Country Club at Mirasol also hosted the PGA Honda Classic from 2003 – 2006 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Like many Florida PGA courses, Mirasol still hosts high visibility events such as the NFL Alumni Caring for Kids Golf Tournament, held to benefit a local children's charity in May 2007. The Country Club at Mirasol boasts two, 18 hole Florida PGA courses named the Sunrise course and the Sunset course. Mirasol also has a spectacular clubhouse built in the old southern mansion style which overlooks the 18th green, a landmark among Florida PGA courses. Mirasol also has a 17k foot sports center called the Esplanade that provides everything one needs to stay fit and pampered.
It is not necessary to be Tiger Woods to enjoy Florida PGA courses. There are courses suitable for every level of golfer. In addition to the Florida PGA courses, the resort life in Florida is world class, and this type of southern hospitality is hard to beat anywhere else in the world. Whether a golfer on a business trip or just taking the family on vacation, one will find everything needed to make memories happen at Florida PGA courses.
